Building a Business at “Weinberg Campus”
Univations – the academic network for start-ups
Univations, the academic network for start-ups in Saxony-Anhalt supports scientific innovation, qualification and further education of academics starting up a business. It also promotes the transfer of knowledge and technology. The project’s aim is the support of academic start-ups from the participating colleges: Martin-Luther-Universität Halle-Wittenberg, Burg Giebichenstein Hochschule für Kunst und Design Halle, Hochschule Merseburg (FH), Hochschule Anhalt (FH). Through this collaboration the existing achievement potentials and resources should be linked efficiently and synergically.
Services:
- Univations supports academic start-ups from the first ideas sur foundation towards growth
- Univations supports students, Ph.D. students, alumni and research associates on their way to self-employment trough individual mentoring, further education and qualification, expertise, scientific support and the supply of an existing infrastructure
- Univations cooperates with over 40 economic and scientific partners, guaranteeing a practice oriented supervision
Univations is coordinated by the institute for innovation and entrepreneurship at the MLU and funded by the state of Saxony-Anhalt and the social capital of the European Union.

Scidea – Innovative Foundations out of Science
Scidea is a third-party funded project of the MLU, initiated to intensify the collaboration between companies and colleges in the region’s most innovative domains as well as to commercialize and utilize innovative ideas produced by the sciences. A strenghtening of the region’s economy shall be achieved through the concerted support of research-intensive company foundations. Via a five-stage model scidea supports scientists and companies partially or throughout the whole process of their cooperative efforts: from the generation of ideas and their evaluation sur their testing and realization to foundation and market entry. The region’s highly developed innovation fields like renewable energy, automotive engineering, life sciences, bio-nano technology, advanced materials and creative economics are especially in focus, for they are the counterpart to the excellent sciences of the regional colleges.

Scidea is supported for three years trough the “Bundesministerium für Wirtschaft und Technologie (BMWi)“ and the support programme “EXIST III - Existenzgründung aus der Wissenschaft“ and is adressed to professors, Ph.D. students and research associates.

The Institute for Innovation and Entrepreneurship
The institute for innovation and entrepreneurship at the MLU is to be found at the technology park “Weinberg Campus” in Halle. Its central aim is the utilization of research results through regional businesses. In association with the MLU, especially with the technology orientated sciences and extra-faculty reseach institutes like Fraunhofer, Max-Planck, Helmholtz and the Leibniz institute as well as young businesses with academic background it supplies high efficiency in task fulfilment and integration in regional networks concerned with technology, innovation and business start-ups.
Services and Business Areas:
- Science and technology orientated services, especially for academic spin-offs, non-academic research institutes and small and medium-sized businesses
- Coordination of foundation-related research, particularly academic spin-offs and third-party funded projects like UNIVATIONS , futurego and Scidea
- Transfer of knowledge and technology as well as the creation of networks and public private partnerships between research institutes, economy and public authorities
- further education of associates, executives and junior executives in economic and administrative key skills
