30 March: New service agreements – no time limit for working from home

The Staff Council and the university’s administration have concluded a service agreement which replaces the one from 13 March 2020 with immediate effect. One major change: the time limit of 21 working days for working from home has been dropped. Further details can be found in the text of the service agreement.

30 March: University elections will not be held in May

The Rector’s Office has cancelled elections on 13 May 2020. This also applies to the elections for the Equal Opportunities Officer, the Student Council and department representatives. The elections will be postponed.

27 March: FAQ supplemented and updated

An FAQ for prospective students was added and the IT Service Centre has issued important information about security. There are also important FAQ updates for university staff members and students.

25 March: Clarification on business trips by members of the university

Business trips are currently prohibited until 20 April 2020. Requests to take business trips for the period after that date are being deferred for the time being.

23 March: Info about teaching now available

The @LLZ (Centre for Multimedia-based Teaching and Learning) at MLU has set up a website for online teaching tailored specifically to the current situation. Instructors will find information about designing online teaching and a list of people to contact. The site also contains information on the legal regulations governing the use of media on learning platforms.

20 March: Cancellation of the Long Night of the Sciences 2020 – HIT virtual

The Long Night of the Sciences will not take place in Halle in 2020. The evening stroll through Halle's research facilities, scheduled for July 3rd, will not be held due to the corona crisis. This has been agreed on by the Rector and the Lord Mayor. The University Information Day (HIT) will also not take place in its usual format. Instead it will be held virtually on 9 May 2020 rather than taking place physically on University Square.

20 March: WebEx Accounts at the IT Service Centre

Since the DFN network is currently running at full capacity, MLU employees can use the Cisco WebEx service for web meetings for the time being. The IT Service Centre will set up the university accounts. Please send an e-mail to: - only university members with a university email address will be accepted.

20 March: ULB expands its digital services

The University and State Library and its branch libraries are currently closed. Therefore, digital services have been expanded and are currently being developed further. More information can be found on the ULB’s website.

The Family Office (Familienbüro) regularly collects and updates information about this on its website.

Recording working time based on the pandemic service agreement

The specified deviations to the “Service Agreement on Working Hours” (Paragraph 7) are all already stored in MTZ Smart Time. It is not necessary to make a request or notify the Time Recording Team.

16 March: Travel by university members

All business trips are prohibited with immediate effect. Only the Rector and the Chancellor are permitted to authorise exceptions.

16 March: Senior college cancelled

The senior college will not take place in summer semester 2020. Enrolment is not possible.

13 March: Special regulations on working from home and working hours

In agreement with the staff council, the university has largely relaxed its working time regulations. The regulations on allowing employees to work from home have also been relaxed. Details can be found in the Service Agreement.

13 march: Childcare for underage children

Employees  with children under the age of 12 who are affected by the closure of day-care  facilities, schools and after-school care have the opportunity to work from home  or, if necessary, to take work leave.

13 March: Information on buildings and services

  • Up-to-date information from the Studentenwerk Halle on dining halls  and counselling services can be found here: https://www.studentenwerk-halle.de/ueber-uns/corona-pandemie    .
  • The computer pools at the IT Service Centre will also be closed from tomorrow onwards. Please contact the Helpdesk
  • All university museums and collections as well as the university archive are closed.
  • All lecture hall buildings will remain closed. The lecture halls in mixed-use buildings will remain locked. The cleaning service will continue to clean areas used by employees, including the toilets. Mail is still being delivered.
  • The university medical team has suspended its normal operations and is supporting its colleagues at the UKH.
  • The University and State Library (ULB) and its branch libraries will be closed to the public. Further information, for example onspecial borrowing arrangements, will be published on the ULB Homepage.
  • The Student Service Centre, General Student Counselling and the Admissions Office are closed to visitors and  students. A consultation by phone or Skype (by appointment only) is still  possible.
  • The University Sports Centre Halle is suspending all courses, both studiFITs, and Pausenexpress.
