Questions and answers: information for prospective students

The information on this page refers only to the special circumstances of the current application year. If you have general questions, please refer to General Student Counselling’s FAQ page.

Is the General Student Counselling currently available without restrictions?

The General Student Counselling Service is currently there for you with all contact options. If you would like to reduce the number of face-to-face meetings, we recommend contacting us by phone, e-mail or video chat.

On-site counselling is also possible and the best option for intensive counselling – ideally with an appointment in advance. During the opening hours of the Infothek, we also welcome you without an appointment.

Will the University Information Day be held in person?

Yes. After two years with a purely online programme, the university presented itself again in 2022 with stands and lectures at the University Square in the centre of the city. This is planned again for next year - on Saturday, 6 May 2023.

How can I find out about the current courses on offer, also remotely?

Our course offerings    are always online. In addition to course content, the course descriptions also contain the admission restrictions (NC or no restrictions) and admission requirements. The new annual study guide Studieren in Halle [Studying in Halle] is available online.

Have a look at    or follow university life on our social media channels.

Is instruction currently taking place in person or online?

The winter semester 2022/23 is planned with in person teaching. Detailed information can be found “next door” in the Corona FAQs for students.

What happens if I have started a master’s programme (or if I am willing to do so) but am still unable to submit my bachelor’s certificate? How much time do I still have to do this?

The submission deadlines have been extended in the meantime – but since the summer semester 2022, the usual deadlines apply (start of studies in the winter semester > certificate submission by the end of January)

I come from abroad and am interested in studying in Halle. What do I currently need to take into consideration?

International travel restrictions as well as the war in Ukraine are prompting more and more “international” questions. General Student Counselling provides information about opportunities for studying in Halle. For advice in English, please contact Claudia Polkau directly.

Prospective students with foreign certificates/degrees can find the current regulations and a point of contact for application questions here.

The International Office advises international students (especially exchange students) on its own webpage.
