Next steps in the application process for the winter semester of 2026

Dear students,

The application deadline for the winter semester was 1 June 2026. We received 456 applications. Thank you very much for your interest in the Deutschlandstipendium.

What happens next?

1. The selection committee appointed by the Rectorate of the University is expected to decide on the awarding of the scholarships in September 2026.

2. Germany Scholarships at MLU are awarded on the basis of the Scholarship Program Act   , the Scholarship Ordinance    and MLU's statutes

3. Selected students are expected to receive notification of their acceptance by the end of September/early October 2026 via email only; unsuccessful applicants will be informed by email approximately six weeks after the selection committee has reached its decision. Please check your email inbox regularly, and your spam folder if necessary.

2. Frequently asked questions

What are the chances of receiving the Deutschlandstipendium?

In principle everybody who achieved or will continue to achieve excellent results at school and/ or university can apply.

NEW for the winter semester 2026!
Applicants with a grade point average lower than 3.0 are not eligible for a Germany Scholarship.

Please note! Students who have exceeded the standard duration of study for their degree programme are not eligible for a Germany Scholarship.

However, the awarding of the Deutschlandstipendium also depends on how many sponsors support the scholarship programme at the university and for which fields of study scholarships are available. The total number of scholarships awarded since October 1st 2011 can be found here.

How can I apply?

Applications are made exclusively via the online portal, which is activated for the respective application period.

I am currently receiving the Germany Scholarship and would like to apply again. What should I consider?

NEW: For students who are already receiving a Germany Scholarship in the current academic year 2025/26 and wish to apply for further funding, a simplified procedure for the renewal application applies from this year onwards.

The current scholarship holders have been informed of this directly.

What documents do I need to submit for my application?

We have compiled a checklist of the documents you need to submit for your application which is also available to download on the online portal. Only upload the required documents to the online portal in PDF format. Please avoid taking photos of your documents with your cell phone or from the screen! Poorly legible documents cannot be included in the application process.

What should I do if I do not yet have any grades or my grade overview does not contain any credit points?

If you do not yet have any credit points (ECTS) and/or grades or these are not listed on your overview of grades, please contact your examination office to obtain an overview. If they do not tell you how many credit points you have already achieved, please enter “0” in your application and explain this in the query field “Explanation of credit points and grades”.

Please note: Students on examination courses should also use the query field for the intermediate examination grade!

I have not yet received an acceptance letter for my place at MLU or am not yet enrolled. Can I still apply?

Yes, you can still apply. In this case, please upload a copy of your acceptance letter, the online application form or, in the case of NC degree programs, the confirmation of your online application instead of your certificate of enrolment.

I am a high school graduate and do not yet have my school leaving certificate. What do I need to consider?

If you do not yet have your university transcript at the time of application, please upload your most recent overview of grades (usually the last semester report) here.

Do I need letters of reference, expert opinions or letters of recommendation for my application?

No, these are not required and are not taken into account.

How many and for which fields of study are the Deutschlandstipendium scholarships awarded?

The number of Germany Scholarships expected to be awarded currently stands at 79 (this information is updated regularly; as of 01 June 2026).

You can find all current sponsors of the Deutschlandstipendium here.

Attention! Applications are also welcome for all degree programs, even if your degree program is not listed in the overview.

What should I keep in mind if I exceed the standard period of study?

In principle, the Deutschlandstipendium is only granted within the standard period of study in the respective degree program.

In exceptional cases, the Deutschlandstipendium may be granted if the standard period of study is exceeded in the case of

  • a disability/serious chronic illness
  • pregnancy
  • the care and upbringing of a child
  • a study-related stay abroad

This information must be clearly explained in the application and be the reason for the extension of the standard period of study.
